Varieties Of Gourmet Olives

The history of olives and olive oil can be traced back to at the least biblical times. When the waters of the great flood subsided and Noah sent forth a dove it was an olive leaf she returned carrying in her mouth. It is known that as long as 6000 years ago olive oil was used as fuel in lamps. Maybe it was this olive oil that created such a beautiful Genie for Major Anthony Nelson to rescue in the popular television sitcom I Dream of Genie. Today in modern grocery stores there are dozens of gourmet olives widely available. Gone are the days of canned black olives and green olives with pimentos as the only choices. For those of us who remember the days of opening a can of black olives and placing one on each finger then systematically biting them off here is the new olive. Nicoises: Is a earthy rich olive commonly used in salad. The curing of this olive in red-wine vinegar gives it a distinctive taste. Green olives with herbs de Provence: This vibrant citrus flavored olive is a delightful blend of herbs de Provence spices and large green olives. It is an excellent choice to use in surf dishes and with sweet spices. Mount Athos...

Wish Upon A Shooting Star

I have always been a dreamer. Even when I was a little kid my thoughts were always full of how my life could be different or of how the world could become a better place. Sometimes, after my mom had tucked me into bed with an instruction to stay in my bed no matter what, I d sneak over to the large window in my bedroom and stare outside into space. I would find an area of the sky that was filled with the most stars and I would wait. I would whisper a wish because wishes always had to be said outloud and wait for a shooting star to fall and make my wish come true. Sometimes my wishes would be for myself and other times I would make wishes for my friends or my family. I didn t like it that my knee got all scraped up when I fell down on the playground, and I didn t like it that other kids got made fun of if they had to wear glasses. So I would make wishes about things like these. I would wait on a shooting star in hopes that my mom would stop crying so much or so that my baby sister wouldn t be sick all the time. I believed with all my heart that all it took for my dreams to come true was seeing a shooting star fall from the sky...

3 Questions To Empower You

Many will look back on their lives and wished they d had an opportunity to have done something different. Some may have even had opportunities to do so but didn t take them. One thought is very common: I wish I could ve done something else but I never really knew what I wanted to do. Sounds familiar, yes. Because I can help you identify what it is you d really like to do and I can show you how to begin. It all starts by asking yourself three very important questions and I believe these questions are the most important questions you can ask yourself. This question gets straight to the heart of the matter and it requires SPECIFIC answers. Also, your answer should be something you have a passion for and are genuinely interested in and not something you think others would be impressed with. It should be something you feel so strongly about that missing out on it will make you seriously unhappy. Take the time to think seriously about this question, at least 30 minutes a day as this is the first step towards getting what you want. Be thorough. Think about how you d like to spend each day of your life, and think about what you don t...

Protect Your Legs For The Important Things In Life

It isn t only accidents and wars that result in amputations; peripheral arterial disease PAD can lead to loss of a leg. It affects 8 to 12 million people in the U.S., especially those over 50. African Americans and Hispanics are at particular risk for PAD. Peripheral arteries carry blood and oxygen from your aorta to your legs and feet. As you get older, plaque can build up in peripheral arteries and block the flow of blood, making it hard for them to do their job. This can cause pain or aching in legs with walking, resting pain in feet, or lead to infections or ulcers in toes or feet. In advanced cases, when the diagnosis is made late, amputation may be necessary, particularly among diabetics. Because there may be no symptoms in the early stages of PAD, it s important that your primary care doctor test you if you are over 50. If evidence of PAD is found, you should see a vascular surgeon, who can offer treatments that may save your legs.

Raw Potatoes And Other Dining Adventures

I admit it: I m a big fan of the Law of Attraction. It s become one of the focal points of my life and of my coaching and teaching practice. However, I ve discovered that there is one drawback to the Law of Attraction: It takes all the fun out of complaining. Once you understand the basic principles of the Law of Attraction you know that whenever you complain, you re in the process of attracting more of exactly what you re whimpering about. Here s a case in point. This past weekend, my friend and I stopped by a little diner on the way back from our hike out on the coast. I ordered a simple brunch of eggs, potatoes and a biscuit. All was good until we began talking about a dinner we had a few weeks ago at a local restaurant. Can you believe their prices. He replied. What are they thinking. What are all the people thinking that eat there. That s what I want to know. I mean it s not even outrageously great food. Not 18.50 for a pizza with no leftovers great. And on it went for a few minutes until I caught myself, realized what I was doing, and said, We re screwed Mike. What do you mean. Well we re both students of the Law of...
